I grew up in a Christian home, but I didn't trust in Christ as my Savior until my second year at University of Virginia. God revealed Himself to me through the Bible studies and witnesses of a campus student group. I gave my life to Christ and made a commitment to learn to walk by faith in Him.
After graduation, I worked at a bank in North Carolina, but while attending church one Sunday as a missionary was speaking, God called me into ministry. My first step in surrendering to that call was to become a journeyman missionary to Zambia, Africa through the Baptist International Mission Board. While serving in Africa under a two year service agreement, I met my wife-to-be, Miss Dana Brask, who was teaching for the American Embassy School of Lusaka.
Upon our arrival in America we were married, and by God's grace, I was blessed to marry the most wonderful person I've ever known. While in school at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, I was called to pastor Corinth Baptist Church in McQuady, Kentucky. We grew together both spiritually and numerically as pastor and congregation for seventeen wonderful years. It was a great blessing to serve there, and it was hard to leave.
But the Lord called us to Roanoke, Virginia in 2007, and we arrived with nothing except the sure conviction that it was God's plan for us to be here. I knew it was God's will for me to be close to my mother and family here in Virginia, but that's all I knew.
Then Villa Heights Baptist Church asked me to come for an interview and to preach one Sunday. Dana and I connected with the congregation from day one, as we all loved God's Word and sought to genuinely love one another. That day was January 6, 2008, and we've been blessed to serve God alongside this wonderful congregation ever since.
Our Lord Jesus Christ has given us a Great Commandment (Matthew 22:36-40) to obey and a Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) to fulfill. By His grace, we will do so until He comes again and takes us home to heaven.
